A few years ago Sharon ran this flat track style 500T on the road and during its construction
several bikes were acquired. Our fellow 500T fan may be interested in
few details as follows:
It all started with a bike that had languished in a barn for 10 years
having been thrown there by the distraught owner. Sadly the last thing
he did was remove the right spark plug. This was particularly unfortunate
as the bike was very close to the open door. 10 years later the wheel
rims were paper thin and the cylinder full of rusty water. £35 later
I had a very rusty frame and seized engine.
Sourcing parts in stock and from the local free adds paper, it finally
hit the road as follows:
Front end; Yamaha XS650 in the Honda yokes, bought from a Triton owner
who was fitting Norton Roadholder forks.
Swinging arm Yamaha SRX600, previously I had used this in in our Yamaha
XZ550 sprinter and CB500T chopper.
Rear wheel Kawasaki KLR650, All the owner had left after a fire!
Exhaust pipes Honda CL450, Harley Sportster silencers sourced
at a boot sale for £5.
Rear master cylinder Honda CBX550.
Side stand Honda CB250RS etc. All the various aluminium brackets, exhaust
clamps, rear mudguard/taillight etc were by Turnertech as was the paintwork.
The result was a massive weight reduction, better braking, improved handling
and we think, better looks!
